5/9/2023 0 Comments 1976 king kong full movieThere are no dinosaurs in this, Kong doesn't sound much like an ape, and that stupid scene where he blows Jessica Lange dry was pretty unrealistic, since apes don't blow air from their mouths. The Bad: This film is shallow compared to the 1933 original and the 2005 remake. The effects of King Kong are average, it's a man in a gorilla suit and it doesn't look that convincing. The cinematography and atmosphere is average, the sets and backgrounds maybe better than some of the actors or the writing but that doesn't save them from being dull. The Meh: Instead of a film crew wanting to film an exotic location with an eccentric filmmaker, this time it's an oil expedition. They choose to put it in a more recent time period, and use the World Trade Center towers instead of Empire State. There is some decent acting from everyone except for Jessica Lange, and even though she's hot and this is her first film, she's not either Fay Wray or Naomi Watts. The Good: Occasionally, the special effects aren't too bad. They could've at least had Kong fighting the Sinclair dinosaur. The worst creature they came up with for this island for Kong to fight against is a lame giant snake-with lots of teeth. Charles Grodin is the evil mastermind of the oil expedition who then changes cue to go catch a Kong and bring him back as-here we go-king sh*t of corporate mascots. Sure, she looks pretty hot, but is as shallow as a kiddie pool. Jessica Lange now plays the part that made Fay Wray famous, with less brains but more sexiness. Way to pander to the oil crisis of the 70's, Hollywood. Well, basically, it's the classic King Kong story, except instead of a film crew, it's, like I said, an oil company. What's that you say? That doesn't sound like the classic you know? Well too bad for you, because 1976 Hollywood doesn't give a s**t what you have to say! They're coked up and ready to give a true classic a modern makeover! Here we have the classic story of the money-hungry oil company setting course over the ocean to find desolate Skull Island to drill for oil. No mere rehash of the older film, the story has been reinterpreted, and very occasionally the effort pays off. Though generally regarded as inferior to the 1933 classic - which it unquestionably is - this remake of "King Kong" can at least boast the virtue of trying to be different. Doesn't fit into the original Kong's shoes.
